LYRICS FOR THE HOOK'S MOONSHINE & HONEY

Moonshine & Honey
The Hook, 2018

Thanks for taking the time to dive a little deeper into the music off of our debut LP, Moonshine & Honey! When we write we like to keep things meaningful, relevant and super simple (with a hint of soul). Each track off of Moonshine & Honey is a taste of what it's been like coming full circle for us on a personal and practical level. We hope you like what you hear, love what you read and find a way to make these songs your own in this crazy, complicated and beautiful world.

Disclaimer: The following lyrics are best sung with a smile and at the top of your lungs.

Precipitate

You’re talking, for all to hear
I heard you, I heard you loud and clear
If you want, then keep me near
Don’t push me, I might just disappear

Illuminate me, look inside
Separate me, pick your side
Captivate me, I’m still alive
Give me reason, give me soul
Pick me up and let me go
Take me somewhere I’ve never know

I can’t stay, no it’s time for me to go home, I won’t stay
I can’t stay, but I’ll go all the places you go, I won’t stay

They’re talking, last I heard
I hear them, every single word
If you need me, then keep me here
Don’t push me, I might just disappear

Pre-Chorus, Chorus

Live It Up

I love how people think that they know me
But in reality they don’t have a clue
So keep on saying what you want about me
And I’ll keep doing what I want to do

So if I want to dance, I’m going to dance
And if I want to sing, I’m going to sing
And if I want to laugh, I’m going to laugh out
And if I want to yell, I’m going to scream and shout

Yea, I’m going to live it up
Yea, I’m going to give it all I got
Yea, it don’t matter what you say
I’m going to live my life the way I want to live it

I love how people think that their shit don’t stink
Why do they always have to hate on me?
Don’t judge, don’t front, just worry about yourself
Read between the lines and go to hell

Pre-Chorus, Chorus

Oh, live it up
Oh, live it up
Everybody, everywhere
Come together don’t be scared, and live it up

Chorus

Fantasy

Every night, I think about my day
Every day, I think about my night
And I can’t say, that everything’s alright
Will you come home, and make my day tonight?

I want to be you, just like you are to me
With all that you do, and everything you see
It’s just not fair, what’s been done to me
I’ve been living my life, like some fantasy

Hey, hey!

All the kings horses, and all the kings men
Put humpty dumpty back together again
It’s just like you, when you were around
But you left me in pieces broken on the ground

Chorus

Like sleeping beauty, dead on her bed
No one ever came, and no words were said
But then the great prince charming, he came prancing along
He said I was never right, and you were never wrong

Chorus
I want to be you

Blunt

Sometimes, we get high just to get by
Sometimes, we get high just to feel alright

Just take a hit pass it down
Just take it in and let it out
Though you’re afraid you might just come down
Just take it in and let it out

Sometimes, we get high just to get along
Sometimes, we get high just to feel like we’re at home

Chorus

Do you get high? I get high
Get high, get higher

Chorus

Take another, take another
Woot, woot

Get My Own

I’ll find my place yeah, to call my own
Leave all I had before, I’m sure to grow

Maybe it’s time, I find my mind

Gettin’ too old for this, child-like lecture shit
No more bitchin’ about my bad habits, had a bit too much of it

Maybe it’s time, I find my mind
Maybe it’s time, I finally get my

Own car, own home, baby that’ll get me known
Pro-life, house wife, nothing like it was back home

It’s like shell-shock, so let the bombs drop
And I’m gone

I need my own shot at Hollywood, wave pool of women for sure
The west coast can save my style, I’m gonna make this mine

Pre-Chorus, Breakdown

Get my own, get my own

Pre-Chorus, Chorus

Be Like Johnny

Here I go, here I go, here I go
I’m on a mission to lose my head

Let it go, watch it float yea let’s lose control
We’ll be like puppets on some string, forgetting how to breath

We want to be like Johnny
Making calls from the 18th floor
We want to be like Johnny

Hey, hey, hey

Here it is, I admit yea I’m on a trip
I’m on a mission to get mix
This is it, I won’t quit, I don’t give a shit
I’m a mission to do me, I never want to be like you

Chorus
We want to be like Johnny

Go Getter

That girl, she claims that she’s hurting bad
But she still thinks, that he’s the best she’ll ever have

Yea I’ve tried, time and time again
But I’ll be fine, without her in the end

I’m a real go getter
Always getting when I can
I’m a real go getter
From my head and to my hands

That girl, she said that she’s well aware
But she still thinks, that he’s worthy of her care
Yea I’ve tried, countless times
I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine

Chorus
I’m a real go getter

Good Feels

Sometimes I get good feelings
Feelings that I can’t quite explain
But darling I don’t need no reason
Cause I won’t let them kill my sway

Cause darling I don’t need no reason
For feeling the way that I feel
So tell them if they’re looking for a reason
They won’t find one here

Sometimes we’ll get upset
Sometimes we’ll swear we’re in over our heads
But darling we don’t need no reason
Cause our reasons don’t need nobody else

Chorus

Get it through your head
That I’m feeling good
Get it through your head
I don’t need no reason

Chorus

Take Control

Breathing is all that we need
To keep on living in this toxic atmosphere
But with blood in our veins, and air in our lungs
We’re bound to show them up

Take control now of me
Grab the wheels and turn them slow
Sooner or later we’ll be fading
Just swear to me you won’t let go, no

Breathing ain’t as hard as it seems
Unless you’re living in this toxic atmosphere
But with mind and some heart, and our fists in the air
We’re bound to get somewhere

Chorus

Brand New

Darling, I’m in way over my head
Nothing’s giving, may as well call it quits

I can feel it in my bones
Now it seems so clear
There ain’t nothing I can’t do
As long as you are near

You make me feel new
You make me feel new
Whenever I’m feeling out of date
You make me feel new

Baby, okay say whatever you say
If you can’t stay, yea I’m bound to break

Pre-Chorus, Chorus
Oh, yea…, Chorus

You Don’t Know What You Do To Me

You don’t know what you do to me

Sometimes I get a bit nervous
But I can’t let you see
I may seem cool on the surface
But I’m boiling underneath

Sometimes I try to get higher
But gravity keeps me down
Sometimes I try to get stronger
By keeping you around

Chorus

I swear I’ll take it easy
If you take your time
But you don’t give me your reason
So I won’t give you mine

No it’s not so easy
When you can’t confide
I always come up for breath
But I hold it all inside

Chorus

Moonshine & Honey

Little John climbed a tree
When he got to the top, never guess what he got
The right to believe, to run and be free

Little John climbed a tree
When he got to the ground, never guess he found
They chopped down that tree, and they raked up the leaves

Life ain’t always butterflies and bees
Life ain’t always moonshine and honey

Oh honey, don’t be like me
I fell for that tree, and look where it got me
Oh it got me

Life is so rich, Life is so rich
Love is so rich, Life is so rich
But I ain’t got money

Life ain’t always moonshine and honey

Witchcraft

Went to hell and back, almost had a heart attack
When I saw her eyes
You know I can’t resist, oh yea I must admit
She got me hypnotized

With her witchcraft
She’s no tarot card reader, you’ll believe me when you see her
Believe that
She’ll give you hot and cold fever, the moment that you see her
Yea, hot damn

You can run and hide, but she’ll find you every time
When she’s on your mind
She said freeze, stop, drop and roll
She’s coming for your soul

Chorus, Verse I, Chorus

Deep Blue

I found my own ounce of paradise,
Swimming in the deep blue of her eyes
It took so long to realize
That I’d rather be drowning, than sinking and floating

Sometimes it gets so hard
But I found some peace of mind
In her eyes, her eyes
Won’t lie, won’t lie

Some people say that love
Comes to those who wait
What can I say, I found love
I found love in this hopeless place

I wasn’t patient no
My hearts never patient so
Let this be a lesson
That whenever you want it just go out and get it

Verse I

I float away, every time I see your gaze
I can’t explain

Chorus

Far At All

Darling, I hate to see you go
Haunt me, when you’re miles away from home

Though it may seem very far
It don’t seem so far at all
Cause in my dreams, you’re in my arms

You don’t seem so far at all…

You don’t seem so
You don’t seem so far
You don’t seem so far at all
Cause in my dreams, you’re in my arms

You don’t seem so far at all…

Darling, I hate to see you go

‘Moonshine & Honey’: The Hook’s Sweet Hangover, Coming Soon

Posted on November 23, 2017 by LVU Staff

“Moonshine & Honey” is like taking all of the finer things in life, jamming them into a bottle and chugging, but tasting every drop, sipping on the lyrics and savoring every beat. The result is something simple, sweet, serious, and intoxicating. The essence of the album is captured in this phrase: live, love, and sing like there’s no tomorrow, but always be true. In other words, embrace your disposition — feel good about where you are, what you’ve done, and where you’re going, but don’t get ahead of yourself. Always remember where you came from.
